Where the River Cuale flows into beautiful Banderas Bay, one of the largest and deepest in the world, lies simple and picturesque Puerto Vallarta, a little town with Mexican spirit.

The Sierra Madre Mountains on the East shelter Puerto Vallarta from the winds and regulate the semi-tropical and humid weather. Verdant hills run down to a blue sea, creating a perfect vacation setting.

The bay brims wth aquatic life. The Humpback Whale migrates here to mate every year from December to March. Sea turtles nest on the beaches from May to October. Antiquarians have much to see as well. Archeological sites in the nearby Ixtapa region date back to 400 BC, and there are remnants of the Aztatlan culture that flourished in this area between 900 and 1200 BC.

Any time of year, local culture thrives in Puerto Vallarta... for instance, take in the dancing and shows of the "Fiesta de Mayo" or the cockfights, bullfights and Mexican Rodeo of "Palenque". Also in in May, a Jazz Festival features New Orleans jazz by renowned United States performers, as well as musicians from international festivals. In September, nearby Guadalajara hosts an International Mariachi and Mexican Rodeo show, with the groups from all over the world. The Mexico Boat Show, International Gastronomic Festival, Annual Fishing Tournament, Professional Tennis Tournament, Arts Festival, Beach Volleyball, Wind Surfing and Sailing Regattas and other surprises come in November with the Fiesta del Mar. December allows the tourist to participate in a traditional celebration. Puerto Vallartan's religious devotees profess their faith during the first twelve days of the month in the "Procession to the Virgin of Guadalupe."
